A terroir-focus and expert vintage<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The 2021 vintage has not been easy. It required constant adaptation of the teams, a close monitoring of our vineyard and its sanitary state. A lot of stress for a very remarkable result!<\/p>\n

2021 Climate<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The mild, warm winter and early spring resulted in an early bud break. We limited the impact of the severe frosts on 6 and 7 April by a late pruning, fortunately anticipated.<\/p>\n

The flowering benefited from a mild window.\u00a0 The stormy instability until mid-July provoked a very active vegetative growth and a strong mildew pressure, but well contained.<\/p>\n

Green harvesting was carried out during the fruit set and at mid-veraison in order to homogenize the crop. The beginning of the harvest took place under a very salutary dry period. The skins and seeds matured to excellent degrees of ripeness as the harvests approached.<\/p>\n

The harvest of the white grapes began on September 15: the grapes were healthy, with a great aromatic freshness and beautiful densities gained thanks to the beautiful sunny days.<\/p>\n

The merlots started at the end of September after a rainy and stressful fortnight. We finished them in mid-October under a beautiful sun, letting the rains pass.\u00a0 The grapes matured well and were supple and harmonious. We finished harvesting the Cabernets on October 19th, under a nice anticyclone. The long maturations offer us beautiful densities and magnificent balances.<\/p>\n

The wines<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

At the tasting, the Malartic 2021 shows a lot of elegance for silky red wines with great sophistication, freshness and aromatic precision. There is good density with a velvety tannin texture and a beautiful depth. The whites, very fresh, offer great tension with a beautiful fruitiness.<\/p>\n

To sum up<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It is thus a vintage that depended very much on the terroir and the winegrower: adaptation, agility and responsiveness were necessary at all stages of the vintage, with late pruning, maintenance of the plant cover with little ploughing, early and high-quality green harvesting to ensure uniform ripening, and management of the harvests on a daily basis with rapid decision-making.<\/p>\n

Our excellent knowledge of Malartic\u2019s terroir enabled us to anticipate its reactions and thus maintain the quality and excellence of Malartic\u2019s grands vins. These are great wines, of a classic style but with a lot of modernity, depth and splendor.<\/p>\n
